Nanny & Home Health Aid — 2020 - 2023
Moments before COVID-19 locked the world down, my veteran husband experienced a life threatening injury to his spine. While on disability, and with the first wave of shutdowns, we made the choice to leave his job in Washington, DC and move back to Ohio.
After months of being bedridden and unable to be seen by medical professionals, my husband was finally authorized for emergency surgery, saving him from permanent paralysis. Less than 6 months later, he experienced a widow maker heart attack. With complications from the heart attack and an inoperable clot still lingering in his heart, he was required to wear a defibrillator vest, put on several blood thinners, and sent home.
Needless to say, I was throw into a whirlwind, suddenly becoming the primary caretaker for my husband. While living with family, I filled the role of the house chef, helped provide childcare for family members, and also attended to my husband’s medical needs.
While it was a wildly stressful segment of my life, during this time I poured myself into scratch cooking, making nutritious meals to feed 5+ people everyday.
My love for cooking was forged in the darkest of times, with once weekly Imperfect Produce deliveries, and the curiously helpful hands of my nephew and niece.
